Habal-Habal Driver Saved Coins – A ‘habal-habal’ driver saved coins for 8 months just to buy a brand new motorcycle goes viral on social media and now inspires people the power of saving money.
Jeffrey Catayas from Barangay Tisa, Cebu City in the Visayas, is a driver of a ‘habal-habal’ – a kind motorcycle that was modified to allow more passengers to ride without having a sidecar.
Habal-Habal motorcycles are common in areas wherein jeepneys, tricycles, and other forms of transportation cannot enter because of, commonly, rough and narrow roads.

In a post by SuperBalita Cebu on Facebook, it said that Catayas have started saving P5 and P10 coins wherein he kept them inside a ‘lantay’ or a bamboo-made bed in January.

Then after eight months of saving, he went to a Honda Center in Cebu wherein he brought all the coins he had saved.
Employees of the motorcycle center helped him in counting the coins and then, Catayas was able to buy a brand new motorcycle in cash.

After the post went viral, Catayas gained praises from netizens as many have been inspired by how he persevered to save money.
One commenter said that he salutes the ‘habal-habal’ driver as he can use the new motorcycle he purchased as a source of income. The commenter also said that it is just a strategy in life.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, motorcycles are among the most common and probably the most in the number of vehicles on the road because of its convenience and low-cost in gas. Another thing is that it can just enter narrow spaces even in traffic.
But, motorcycles are also among the most frequent causes of acc1dents in the country as many people do not where proper gears of even because of reckless driving.
